What is Octet?

Using IP address, compute or computer like devices can communicate. All IP of IPv4 is based on 32 bits in length and separated into four groups using three dot (.) among the groups. Each group is known as octet. So, octet is basically each group of an IPv4 blocks and in an IP of IPv4 has only 4 octets.

An octet is a binary number of eight (8) consecutive bits. The lowest possible number of an octet is 00000000 and the highest possible number is 11111111 or 28 (256 in decimal format).
